ENDEMOL SHINE NORTH AMERICA & MAJOR TV ADAPTING CHRIS PEREZ'S TO SELENA WITH LOVE FOR TELEVISION
Studios Developing Series For Both English and Spanish Audiences Based On Best-Selling Book About Latin Superstar's Love Story
Endemol Shine North America and Major TV have optioned the television rights to Chris Perez's To Selena With Love, the best-selling book that tells the late Latin music superstar’s love story through the eyes of her husband.
Endemol Shine and Major TV are adapting To Selena With Love for both English and Spanish TV audiences with Blue Mariachi, Perez and Carlito Miranda's production company. Endemol Shine, Major TV and Blue Mariachi are also developing additional culturally-driven scripted and non-scripted content together.
In To Selena With Love, which was first published in 2012 (English and Spanish), Perez recounts for the first time his compelling, forbidden and ultimately tragic love story with one of the most revered Latin music stars, Selena Quintanilla. The TV series will also include details, stories, perspective and insights which were not covered in the book from Perez's perspective.
Major TV is led by Raymond Garcia, formerly publisher and founder of Celebra at Penguin Random House, where he published numerous best-sellers with top authors such as Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, and Perez, author of To Selena With Love.
"I spent several years keeping the memories of my late wife bottled up inside," says Perez. "To Selena with Love allowed me to finally embrace my experience and understand the void it could fill in the hearts of so many others. I am now ready to take the important step of being fully transparent and bringing my everlasting relationship to life on the screen."
"Selena is one of the most influential Latin artists of all time and her legacy continues to live on long after her tragic death," says Endemol Shine North America CEO and Endemol Shine Americas Chairman Cris Abrego. "Chris Perez's beautiful book To Selena With Love captured their amazing life together and will make for the perfect foundation for a TV series that our team is currently developing for both English and Spanish audiences worldwide."
Added Major TV’s Garcia, "I could not be more honored and humbled to launch Major TV with Endemol Shine and the captivating love story of the legendary Selena Quintanilla and Chris Perez. Having published To Selena with Love, I witnessed legions of fans moved to tears with a rare glimpse into the heart and soul of their eternal icon. I am very proud of Chris for sharing his deeply personal relationship for the first time on television."
Grammy Award-winner Selena Quintanilla is one of the most influential Latin artists of all time, having sold 60 million albums world wide. The Texas-born singer made her recording debut in the '80s, going on to become an award-winning recording artist in the Latin music scene with albums like Amor Prohibido and Selena Live. In 1995, she was tragically murdered by the founder of her fan club. Her last album, Dreaming of You, was released posthumously in 1995 and became a huge hit. Selena's life story was the subject of a 1997 film, Selena, which starred Jennifer Lopez in her career-propelling role as the Tejano superstar and James Edward Olmos as her father.

Selena Quintanilla is Latina Magazine's November 2016 Cover Star!
10/25/2016
SAINT SELENA
Selena Quintanilla, the eternal queen of our collective hearts, is our 20th anniversary cover star because her influence transcends age, ethnicity, and class. And, more important, she was all ours.
OUR BELOVED SELENA QUINTANILLA WAS BOLDLY BICULTURAL BEFORE SOCIETY COULD ACCEPT THAT LATINAS COULD BE 100 PERCENT AMERICAN AND 100 PERCENT LATINO.
"We have to be more Mexican than the Mexicans and more American than the Americans, both at the same time. It' exhausting!" goes an oft-quoted line from the movie Selena. But Selena rose above the identity struggle by not struggling at all. Instead she leaned into her Latina-ness and embraced whom she so gloriously was: an American-born, non-native-Spanish-speaking Latina who was curvy and brown, and loved both pizza and tacos.
In her all-too-short life, the charismatic Tejana proved to be the reigning queen of a male-dominated music genre few believed she could ever conquer. And along with her award-winning music, she owned a clothing store and was creating a beauty line, proving herself to be #theboss before the hashtag existed. Selena stands out as one of the most beloved Latinas of our generation — that’s why she’s the cover image for Latina’s 20th anniversary — transcending age and background to be revered by millennials, old folks, and celebs alike. Selena Gomez is named after her, and Jennifer Lopez is famous because of her. So why the near sainthood status?
Why the adoration of a young Tejana who sang regional Mexican music? Because Selena was unshakably real, unabashedly herself. Unlike other Latino stars who made it big in music or Hollywood by modifying their names and "passing" as white, Selena went the other route. She turned to her culture first, rediscovering her roots to find her voz. And through her powerful voice, we American Latinas found ours.—Robyn Moreno, Editorial Director

Selena Inducted Into the Texas Women Hall Of Fame
10/21/2016
We are happy to announce that today, Selena was inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame at the Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. Suzette Quintanilla was present to receive this prestigious recognition in her sister's honor by Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott.
"The impossible, is always possible..." More than just her favorite quote, those four words capture the meteoric rise of a young latina who defined expectations. A Grammy Award-winning recording artist, her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the 20th Century. More than two decades after her death, she is still known by one name, Selena. Young latinas not only saw themselves in Selena, they saw that beauty begins within."
Congratulations Selena!

Suzette interview with Marie Claire on MAC Selena
9/6/2016
MC: Selena loved beauty and makeup, was there anyone that was her beauty icon or idol?
Suzette: I wouldn't say that she had an icon or anything, but probably my mother. My mother always had her hair and her makeup done if she ever left the house, that's how she raised Selena and I to be. I know that before Selena passed we would never go out without our makeup. I don't know if it's a Latina thing or if it was just the way our Mom raised us. So if she looked up to anybody, beauty wise, it would definitely be my mother."

Roselyn Sanchez: This is Why 'We Worship Selena'
8/26/2016
"Selena's legacy means everything. It's so incredibly sad, but her legacy is so huge for the Mexican community and Latinos in general." Sanchez told The MVTO. "She was able to do so much, even though she had a short life. She's adored. She was a good singer, a good talent, and a good person."
She continued, "It's incredible the phenomenon of Selena until this day is the same. We worship Selena because she had the potential to do an incredible crossover, even though she did — she was the pioneer. Everybody wants to be that, and she did it before anybody else."
The proof of Selena's long-lasting legacy and love from her fans is being seen in everything from a #MACSelena makeup collection to a wax figure at Madame Tussauds to the Queen of Tejano receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017. We can only imagine her smile as she looks down.

Selena to be inducted into Texas Women's Hall of Fame
8/18/2016
Governor Greg Abbott announced today that Selena will be inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame.
"I am honored to welcome these five extraordinary women into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame," said Gov. Abbott. "Whether in public service, the arts, business or education, these leaders have inspired generations of Texans to reach new heights, achieve new goals and elevate the Lone Star State. I would like to thank each of the honorees and their families for their enduring contributions to the State of Texas."
Selena Quintanilla was a Grammy Award-winning Latin recording artist whose contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the 20th century. Known as the "Queen of Tejano Music," Selena gained notoriety in the late 1980s for her eclectic style and powerful voice.
Selena was also active in education by speaking at schools urging kids to better themselves by staying in school, abstaining from drugs and working hard to attain their goals.
Selena's story transcends cultural differences and continues to inspire people around the world. She is remembered as an icon for her musical accomplishments as well as for the joy that the memory of her charismatic personality continues to bring to her fans.
The Texas Women's Hall of Fame accepts nominations biannually and is open to any native or current residents of Texas, living or deceased, who have made significant contributions that have benefitted the State of Texas. Texas residents submit nominations and a panel of judges selects the recipients who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will be held on the campus of Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas on October 21st.
Governor Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott will be in attendance to honor the five new inductees and celebrate their contributions to the State of Texas.
Also being inducted this year are Emma Carter Browning (Aviation), Susie Hitchcock-Hall (Business), Ginger Kerrick (STEM) and Dr. Renu Khator (Public Service).
For Selena, the Texas Women's Hall of Fame news comes after a slew of posthumous honors this year. In June, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that the superstar will receive a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 2017. In July, Madame Tussauds Hollywood announced plans to immortalize the legend with a wax figure.
Fans will have more to celebrate in October when M.A.C. cosmetics releases the limited-edition Selena makeup line.

Selena Gomez Talks Selena Quintanilla; Reveals Why She Was Named After 'Queen Of Tejano'
5/3/2016
"My dad and mom were huge fans," said Gomez to the radio personality, reports The Huffington Post. The Mexican-American songstress and actress, who was born three years before Selena's passing revealed that she was not going to be called Selena. In fact, her parents had another pretty name in mind. "My name was going to be Priscilla, but my cousin actually took the name when she was born six months before me," she added. "My parent's loved Selena's music. So, they just named me after her."

So, how did Selena get nominated for the award? She was actually nominated for two 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards, "due to Lo Mejor De… Selena", a best of compilation released in March 2015 that spent 44 weeks on the Latin Pop Albums chart, climbing to the No. 2 spot.
This Is Why Selena Fans Are the Ultimate Crew
4/26/2016
The secret to life is this: Don't mess with Selena fans. When it comes to fans, Selena's are the ultimate kind. Her admirers love hard and fight harder (not in the physical way, obviously). They don't tolerate false accusations, misinformed accounts of her life, and do not entertain any foolish comments you throw their way.
If you lined up all of Selena's fans, they would link up so hard that a bulldozer would bounce off of them — nothing can knock them down. Their support for the late icon is unparalleled to anything else we have ever seen. They're the pulse that keeps her spirit alive and will continue to do "anything for Selenas!" And if this isn't enough of a reason to let these mega-fans keep dominating the space, we've listed nine other reasons to think twice before you try to go after them.

Old cable access videos captured the girl who became a superstar
Selena Quintanilla-Perez recorded a video of "Tu No Sabes" at Martin Weiss Park in Oak Cliff in July 1987.
The first time Gilbert and Rosemary Cortez met Selena, she was in her tour bus parked outside of a club where Selena y los Dinos were to play that night in Grand Prairie.
Selena, left, poses with Gilbert and Rosemary Cortez after her first performance at the State Fair of Texas in 1985. (Photo courtesy of Rosemary Cortez)
When Selena returned to Dallas for a performance in July 1987, Abraham Quintanilla allowed Gilbert to film a video for her song "Tu No Sabes".
Gilbert and Rosemary brought Selena to the State Fair of Texas that year.
"They performed their own Tejano songs along with Anita Baker’s "Sweet Love" and Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done for Me Lately." "My father has that also recorded! We might release that footage eventually" adds Emily Cortez.
For many years, Rosemary collected magazines and other Selena memorabilia and she keeps it all back in a closet somewhere. Memories of a sweet girl, a superstar she once knew.

Since January, "Selena The One" Facebook page and website has slowly been removing photos and posts leaving fans to wonder "What is going on?". Many Fans have been waiting for a special announcement from Acrovirt or Q-Productions on how the process is going but today we are saddened to read the comment Mr. Quintanilla had replied to a fan questioning the process of "Selena The One", his reply:
"I don't mess with anyone nor do I have the necessity to explain anything to anyone what my family or my business (Q-Productions) does. But yes, SELENA THE ONE project with Acrovirt is canceled, and this is the reason why; they were asking for money from the fans. We are working with a new company, and this time I will not release any information to anyone until the project is ready. I don't want anymore nagging questions."

50 reasons to love Corpus Christi
1/21/2016
Fiesta de la Flor
It's no secret Corpus Christi loves Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
But even with that knowledge, no one was quite prepared for the success of the inaugural Fiesta de la Flor: A celebration of the Life & Legacy of Selena in April 2015.
Fans of the Tejano queen flocked to the city's bayfront for the celebration, which wasn't just another weekend festival. Many were forced indoors while storms moved through the Coastal Bend. But a little wind and rain can't dampen the spirits of Selena fans, who were back celebrating her life and legacy once the clouds cleared.
At the close of the two-day event, the tally showed the famed singer remains in the hearts of many. More than 52,000 people — 76 percent of them from out of town — attended the festival, bringing with them an economic impact of about $13 million.

Suzette Quintanilla-Arriaga's vision crucial for Fiesta de la Flor
1/2/2016
Fiesta de la Flor was going to be a first for Corpus Christi. A big first.
So the details mattered.
That's where Suzette Quintanilla-Arriaga's opinion mattered, say organizers of the inaugural Fiesta de la Flor. They credit Quintanilla-Arriaga, the slain Tejano siren's older sister and a producer for her family's Q Productions music studio, with being one driving force behind a festival that promises to shape Corpus Christi into a tourism heavyweight.
And that's why the Caller-Times selected her as its Newsmaker of the Year.
"I just don't think I deserve it," Quintanilla-Arriaga, 48, told the Caller-Times in December. "I don't think I've done (anything) that special."
The year 2015 was big for those who love Quintanilla-Perez, the singer from Corpus Christi with the megawatt smile whose life and captivating stage presence opened doors for the Shakiras, Demi Lovatos and Selena Gomezes of the world.
Selena Quintanilla-Perez was the Caller-Times' Newsmaker of the Year in 1995.
Tornado-force winds, heavy rain and flash floods pounded the Coastal Bend on Fiesta weekend. They should have discouraged the estimated 50,000 drenched fans who descended on the area from 35 states and five countries.
They didn't.
Tourism officials believe an estimated $13 million was injected into the local economy.
The next Fiesta de la Flor is slated for May 6-7.
