Selena Gomez has four known tattoos. Her first tattoo was a tiny music note on the side of her right wrist. "I was named after a singer (Selena Quintanilla-Perez) and music obviously has a big influence on me." Selena explained to E! Online, talking about her tattoo. "And there’s a lot of music stuff with my mom that means a lot to me, too." Selena got this tattoo in February, 2012. The tattoo came shortly after Selena announced she was taking a break from music to spend most of 2012 focusing on her acting career. Perhaps music is a part of her even when she isn’t performing; this tattoo clearly means a lot to her.

Selena Loteria
12/11/15
If there isn't a Selena-themed loteria set that can be purchased at your neighborhood botanica, there really should be. (Get on that, Abe.) Just think how La Reina de Tex-Mex could be reimagined as the figures depicted in a traditional deck. Selena illustrated la dama, for example, or la corona, la estrella, or even el corazon. "Como la Flor" could be referenced on la rosa or la maceta. You could easily gender-swap el musico. La Sirena would be renamed la Selena, obviously. (She'd still be a mermaid, though.) El tambor? Clearly Suzette. And la mano? Abe. El valiente? Chris Perez. La botella? Well, that card is required to reference her deal with Coca-Cola. And, because it's unavoidable, reviled murderer Yolanda Saldivar would appear as la diabla, la muerte, as well as la per(r)a. Andale mijos! Someone make this happen.

Selena Quintanilla Reimagined As Disney Princesses
12/8/15
Selena Quintanilla is all the rage --- yesterday, today and always! One person who definitely got the memo is artist Isaiah Stephens, an illustrator, animator, and writer based in Lowell, Massachusetts. As a proclaimed Selena fan, Stephens has used his talents to create a series of drawings reimagining the Queen of Tejano as classic Disney princesses. The results are hands down mesmerizing. "I absolutely love Selena," he told Latin Times, adding that the idea to create the drawings came from Cosmo Latina reporter Alanna Nuñez. According to Stephens, who describes his art as "fun, light-hearted, and nostalgic," each of the Selena drawings took between two to eight hours to create. "It depends on how much detail I need to put into the piece," he said. Don't Mulan, Snow White, Pocahontas, Tiana, Jasmine and Esmeralda look como una flor!?

The Corpus Christi Experience
12/5/15
If you aren’t a Selena fan, Corpus Christi would probably come across as any other city in Texas. I remember the first time I went and going down the interstate and thinking how industrial it looked. There’s nothing exactly striking about it. The downtown area by the bay is beautiful and if you take a drive down the coast it’s wonderful but the rest…nothing really distinct. Although I had the best BBQ food in my life while visiting...

Why Do Latinos Still Love Selena 20 Years After Her Death?
10-29-15
Corpus Christi, Selena's hometown, is now the home of the Selena Museum, which opened in 1998. When Roger Gomez visited the museum for the first time, he told Mic, it was like Disneyland without rides.
"To be that close to something Selena touched or was in, it was magical, for sure," Gomez said.
Gomez runs Love Selena, a website dedicated to the late singer. The Facebook page has more than 26,000 likes, and around 3,000 people follow Love Selena's Twitter. Gomez also started an annual Selena fan gathering in Los Angeles. Gomez said when he began the gathering last year, it attracted around 100 fans; this year, more than 1,000 came, including her widower Chris Perez.
"He made me feel like I could talk to him about anything, really," Gomez said. "I wasn't starstruck. It was a weird feeling, but the way you and I are talking now," he told Mic, "that's the way it felt."
Life after death: Gomez said he doesn't take much issue with Selena's second life: To him, her impact has never ended. "It isn't just Latinos," Gomez said. "I think people love Selena and are attracted to her because her story hasn't finished. Although her life was cut short, her dreams are still evolving."
Selena's death is something her fans who spoke to Mic seem to ignore. Her murderer, Yolanda Saldivar, even less so.
"[Saldivar] doesn't cross my mind," Gomez said. "My focus is on Selena's life, her goals, her achievements, who she was — not her death."

Download "Ven Comigo" on iTunes http://apple.co/1XsUztH DID YOU KNOW..
Ven Conmigo (English: Come With Me) is the second studio album by Tejano singer Selena y Los Dinos.
The album includes a musical variety of rancheras, cumbias, ballads, and pop.
A.B. Quintanilla, the producer, enlisted the participation of David Lee Garza, an accordion player for the title track, "Ven Conmigo".
The group recorded "La Tracalera", a cover version of a song by the original Dinos, and "Aunque No Salga el Sol" in 1984.
The song "Baila Esta Cumbia" was an instant success in the U.S. and crossed over later on to Mexico.
The album cover was photographed in black and white because Selena dyed her hair jet black the night before and got some on her face.
Ven Conmigo was Selena y Los Dinos's first Gold album.
A remastered version was released in 2002.

How 1 Fan Convinced MAC to Give Selena Her Own Makeup Line
9/11/15
"Selena was representative of all the things Latinas love about ourselves."
Patty Rodriguez first sent MAC Cosmetics an email in 2013 with a simple suggestion.
"It was just me saying, 'Hey, I'm a Latina consumer and as a demographic, we will purchase three times more beauty products than any other consumer in the country,'" she told Cosmopolitan.com. "'We're your biggest group and it would only make sense for a popular brand like MAC to create a line for Selena Quintanilla, a singer who means so much to us.'"

"Oh No" (I'll Never Fall In Love Again)
9/10/15
Selena Quintanilla fans, who like to jam to the official online Selena radio, were in for a real treat this week with a new addition to the mix. The radio station, which plays all of Selena's hits 24/7 (and also songs from other Q Production artists), has added a hidden gem called "Oh No (I'll Never Fall In Love Again)."
"The song was never recorded professionally, but we found a tape where they recorded the rehearsal," Mr. Quintanilla explains. "The reason we never released it as one of her songs was because it was not up to par as far as sound is concerned. Years later, my son A.B. recorded it with the Kumbia Kings. We thought fans could enjoy, even if it's not a professional recording," he added.

One Word... Selena
8/25/15
If I were to say this over the radio automatically the younger generation would think Selena Gomez. If you happen to be from Texas you would for sure think of Selena Quintanilla.
If you don't know who she is you must be living under a rock and most definitely shame on you. How can anybody not know of Selena Quintanilla. Maybe the washing machine or bidi bidi bom bom might help a little.

Javelina Band to perform 'The Music of Selena'
8/24/15
Texas A&M University-Kingsville's Javelina Marching Band features it's 2015 Exhibition show, "The Music of Selena". This is the bands first performance of the season and a sneak peek of our 2015 show! This is the first third of our complete show, and the result at the end of the fifth day of band camp!
The Texas A&M Kingsville Javelina Marching Band will be channeling an unforgettable voice on the football field this fall.
The band will perform multiple songs made famous by Selena y Los Dinos in its 2015 exhibition show "The Music of Selena," during halftime of Javelina football games and throughout University Interscholastic League marching contest season.
Jason Kihle, associate director of bands, said the show is the brain child of student drum major Ruby Guajardo.
A video of the band practicing "Como La Flor" was posted on Javelina Marching Band's Facebook page Saturday. The song is the first third of the complete show and was performed by the band after five days of summer band camp.
The first Javelina football game is at 2 p.m. Sept. 5 against the University of Incarnate Word at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium in San Antonio. The first home game is at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 against Missouri University of Science and Technology at Javelina Stadium.
The intersection of fact and truth
8/23/15
Corpus Christi Caller Times Opinion Editor; Tom Whitehurst
One of the biggest positives for me was my new perspective on Abe Quintanilla thanks to the unflattering article. He is control-freakish, intimidating, arrogant and I hope someday to be half the father to my daughter that he is to his children, including Selena still to this day.
Quintanilla controlled Selena's career, her life, the money. Those facts could tell a story of exploitation. To me they tell the story of Selena's discoverer, protector, guidance counselor, roadie and biggest fan.
He built a whole family unit whose members supported each other and fed off each other's talents. His son A.B. wrote "Como la Flor," as famous a claim to fame as Jerry Jeff Walker having written "Mister Bojangles." Would A.B. Quintanilla have written "Como la Flor" had his gifted sister not needed songs to sing?
Who owns Selena's legacy? It's a question pondered in the Texas Monthly article. The answer is that we all do. We own Selena and we owe Abraham. That's the story I see, and the facts don't get in the way.

7/16/15 - MAC Cosmetics to launch Selena collection
Selena and her sister would lay down in the tour bus after a long show and talk about their dreams and hopes for the future.
At the top of Selena's list was her desire to launch her own cosmetics line. Though she isn't here to see it, the world learned that one of her dreams is coming true 20 years after her death.
On Thursday July 16, 2015, MAC Cosmetics announced a Selena Quintanilla-Perez collection set for release in the second half of 2016.
"This is something that my sister would have been excited about," Suzette Quintanilla said. "I think it's awesome that Selena's fans are embracing her 20 years later."
Quintanilla said Selena was trying to get a line started before she was shot at a local motel March 31, 1995.
Selena's family was excited when MAC approached them about this limited edition collection to commemorate the beloved Tejano singer.
"I know that she is not here to take this in and enjoy that one of her dreams is actually happening," she said. "The fact that it's actually happening ... that's what's important."
Fans started an online petition at change.org calling on MAC Cosmetics to commemorate the "iconic legend" with a collection about five months ago.
"Selena's talent and beauty, inside and out, have left a colorful, meaningful impact in the world," MAC Senior Vice President and Group Creative Director James Gager wrote in a statement. "We have heard the passion and enthusiasm from her fans and wholeheartedly agree that her legacy embodies MAC's philosophy."
Though the collection has brought a lot of excitement, the persistence and loyalty of her fans is what Quintanilla said is so amazing.
"As a Latina woman there's not a lot of role models ... it's awesome that she's been recognized as that by her fans," she said. "She always said 'the impossible is possible'."
